I was really impressed today to meet the West Hull Warriors- four girls who have spent their summer raising money and raising awareness about water safety in Pickering Park as part of the Lifestyle team project run by Humberside Police. They have made a DVD for primary schools, and have raised money to pay for new signs at Pickering Park pond and the Humber Lifeboat rescue at Hessle foreshore. They have also bought some new equipment for the park rangers in Pickering Park such as safety ropes to help anyone should they fall into the pond.

Today I went to watch the team present the new signs and the safety equipment to the park rangers. They talked to me about the importance of water safety, and how they want to see more regular campaigns telling people about water safety, which I’ve agreed to help them with.
They were also doing face painting, selling cakes, and other activities.

They’ve done a great job. Congratulations to them all.
